Antique Log Cabin Quilt

Antique Log Cabin Quilt

We’ve finished a number of antique and vintage log cabin quilts but this is not one of them.

We don’t provide cost estimates until we see the quilt and this is a good example why. The 1/4-inch wide satin fabric strips were falling apart. There was no way to hand quilt the quilt top and secure the delicate fabrics without first stabilizing. There are quilt restoration services who can secure the delicate fabrics before handquilting gets added.

One more tip if you have an antique quilt. Make sure to air it twice a year and don’t store in plastic. Cotton pillow cases and cotton fabrics can protect the quilt without collecting scents in a small contained space.

We loved seeing this heirloom quilt and sent it back to the customers with recommendations and aired out. Hope they can find someone who can help them preserve this family treasure.
