Wrong Quilt Spelling

What is wrong with this charming personalized Pastel ABC’s baby quilt? Nothing with the baby quilt itself but he embroidered name was misspelled by a customer.

The customer was ready to buy a new baby quilt but because the error was easy to fix, relatively speaking, she didn’t have to do that.

Once the baby quilt was returned, I carefully hand removed the first name, without damaging the baby quilt, so that it could be correctly embroidered correctly.

With the incorrect named removed, it was re-embroidered correctly. (Photo by Charlotte Ekker Wiggins)

If you try to do this yourself, take your time. This is a hand quilted quilt so you don’t want to cut through the hand quilting. You also don’t want to damage the fabric.

Personalized Noah’s Ark Baby Quilt

One of our customer’s favorite baby gifts are personalized handmade baby quilts. Depending on the baby quilt pattern, the handmade baby quilt can be personalized in several spots.

Usually the custom embroidery is added to the bottom or middle of the handmade baby quilt. In this case, there was room at the top in this Noah’s Ark Baby Quilt gift set. Actually in the clouds, with the wide blue fabric expanse in the background of the scene in “Gotta Have” font.

Sometimes the custom embroidery is a simple first name and date.

In the personalized Noah’s Ark Baby Quilt example, the gift included name, birth date, height and weight.

There is one piece of information missing from the traditional baby quilt information and that was the birth time.

There is no “standard” for what to add, you can include as little or as much information as you want and as the space allows.

One more consideration is the font you want to use. We offer a nice selection. Zapf Chancery is the top used font for personalized quilts followed by Diane Script and Custom Script.

Sometimes the font choice will depend on how much space is available for the custom embroidery.

Personalized One Sheep Baby Quilt Gift

Some baby quilt gifts take a little creativity to pull together, especially the free toy gift that we include to carry the givers best wishes. When it comes to One Sheep Two Sheep Baby Quilt, the decision is easy and obvious, although I still am particular about what kind of sheep toy we include.

Frankly this is one of my all-time favorite little sheep baby quilts and sheep toys. The sheep toy has movable arms and legs and a very soft pelt, similar to the soft, raised fur on the applique sheep on the handmade baby quilt.

Of all of the baby quilts we offer, this one is definitely in a 3-d vibe.

Our gift toys are also custom and unique so this is the only little toy sheep we currently have in stock to keep One Sheep Two Sheep Baby Quilt company.

Once I add the gift tag with the good wishes, I tuck the sheep toy inside the baby quilt to comfortably make the trip to its new home.

And to finish off the shipping, I wrap the baby quilt and toy so the recipient knows this is a custom personalized gift just for her.

The nice thing about One Sheep Two Sheep Baby Quilt is that it works for both girls and boys so it makes a nice baby shower gift.

Now off to shop for more sheep for my little quilt flock!

Personalized Pastel ABC Baby Quilt Gift

I have lost track of how many personalized baby quilts we have finished and shipped for this customer and it’s always fun to work with her.

This time it was a new grand niece and she wanted some suggestions for a “non-girly pink” baby quilt. After going through several options, we settled on Pastel ABC Baby Quilt, a customer favorite over the years for both boys and girls. Frankly it has also been a personal favorite when I give a baby gift quilt.

One of the frequent questions customers ask is how much of the baby’s name should be included. My answer is that is a matter of personal taste. We have some customers who add first, middle and last names, others who just include the first and middle names. In this case, the customer only added the first name but in a 2” font size, which is a nice way to celebrate the new family member.

Because she didn’t want pink, I suggested a matching lavender for one of the fabrics included in the baby quilt.

Once the name was settled, it’s my turn to make some choices about the free toy to include. Since she didn’t want anything pink I settled on this cute fabric mouse with only a pink nose to carry the customers good wishes.

Sometimes customers give me a hint on what to include, such as suggesting a cat or dog toy. Without a suggestion, I try to match something the customer has told me about the family. And yes, sometimes this step takes me the most time, it’s like going on a treasure hunt through the information I have heard to find something appropriate.

The nice thing about Pastel ABC Baby Quilt is that there are a lot of color options!

Personalized Pastel ABC Baby Quilt Gift Card

Personalized Pastel ABC Baby Quilt Thank You Card

There are many ways to personalize a gift baby quilt. We can add custom embroidery, print off a photo to sewn on the baby quilt and add a dedication, and photo, to the baby quilt back side. There is another easy way to keep the gift on giving and we were a recipient of the gratitude so I can personally attest how well it works.

We have made a number of gift cards for Pastel ABC Baby Quilt since the customers buy the quilt to be personalized and shipped to a different address.

A few years ago, one of the baby quilt recipients took a photo of the baby recipient with the baby quilt and sent us a thank you card.

I forwarded the thank you card to the original customer with a personal note and suggested they frame it.

They did and sent me another thank you note for the suggestion and a photo of the framed card.

And now here I am suggesting how others can keep the gratitude going. The world can use a little more thankfulness these days, don’t you think?

Personalized On the Farm Baby Quilt Gift

Personalizing a baby quilt can be more than adding custom embroidery. In the case of this  On The Farm Baby Quilt Gift set, we did add custom embroidery in the cream white fabric at the bottom, under the sheep.

It was simple, just the first and middle name in a complimentary gold-ish thread so that the name would easily blend into the overall baby crib quilt farm theme.

We like to go one step extra. All of our baby quilts are shipped with a free complimentary toy that delivers the free gift card. I smile when I think of these little toys because over the years, our customers have told us how much the kids have enjoyed having both the toy and the baby quilt.

In this case, I found a charming cream-colored rabbit toy to carry the gift tag.

The moral of this story is if you don't have time to add custom embroidery to a baby quilt, personalize the gift by adding a complimentary toy:

If the parents are sports fans, add a little toy that represents their favorite team.

If the parents have a favorite hobby, add a little toy that reflects that hobby.

And if in doubt, find a toy that compliments the quilt, either in color or theme.

Personalized Baby Alphabet Quilt

Every time I get to gift-wrap and ship one of our personalized quilts, I imagine what the recipient goes through at the other end when they get first get the box.

Is it well gift-wrapped?

What will they think when they first read the free gift tag enclosed?

Since all of our baby quilts are shipped with a free toy carrying the gift tag, what kind of toy will I choose? And where will the toy pop up when the gift is unwrapped?

In this example, the personalized baby quilt was our very popular Alphabet in Clouds Baby Quilt with a white cloud at the top where the custom embroidery can easily be added.

The white cloud at the top of the quilt is a perfect place for custom embroidery. (Photo by Charlotte Ekker Wiggins)

Where to place the custom embroidery is easy but what about the free gift toy? When one has 26 letters in the alphabet, which one am I going to match?

As I go through my choices, I try to compliment the quilt colors with the colors in the toy. I also try to select a toy that is represented in the baby quilt. In this case, it was easy, C is for Cat!

To make the personalized gift even more special, I tuck the toy inside the baby quilt so that when it is unwrapped, the toy is a special surprise. Like the soft center inside a chocolate. I must have the letter C on my mind!

A Honey of a Personalized Gift

Here's a sneak peek at how we personalize some of our custom baby crib quilts.

Here's a sneak peek at how we personalize some of our custom baby crib quilts.

A Honey of a Personalized Gift

A beekeeping friend's daughter was having a baby but due to complications, the baby wasn't going home from the hospital.

Daily updates were heart-breaking as the family shared their fears, joys, hopes - that the little new life would pull through and finally get to go home and start life as a normal addition to the family.

I wasn't a family member nor did I live close enough to share in the hospital watches but I wanted my friend to know I had hope that she would have a new beekeeper in her family.

One of the advantages of running my own business is that I can shop from my own inventory and I picked this vintage printed honey-themed baby quilt Honey Bears Baby Quilt to ship, along with a little bee toy, to deliver my best wishes.

The little Gund honeybee is delivering the free gift tag with the handmade baby crib quilt.

Isn't that little bear cute peeking out from the corner of the gift box? One of my favorite parts of this business is gift-wrapping, as if you can't tell.

This was a fun baby quilt because the panel was hand quilted, giving the quilt an extra dimension. If they didn't want to use it in a crib, it could easily have been made into a nursery wall hanging.

The baby quilts and baby crib quilts are one of a kind so we don't have any more of these but I still consider this one of my favorite baby gifts.

Interested in the vintage honey bear quilt panel? I found another one on Etsy if you are looking for one.

Personalized Noah's Ark Baby Quilt

It's so much fun to hear from our repeat customers and this personalized baby quilt was for one of our early ones.

The customer selected Noah's Ark baby quilt because it was from the Williamsburg, Va. collection. The re-enactment village Williamsburg simulates what life was like when European settlers arrived in North America. The new baby was born in nearby Chesapeake, so the quilt design being from nearby Williamsburg held special meaning.

The baby's name is "Edmund," which we custom embroidered at the top of Noah's Ark baby quilt in 2 inch letters in navy blue thread.

The bear is ready to deliver best wishes to a new arrival when the baby quilt arrives.

Our personalized baby quilts are shipped with a toy, in this case a little beige bear that complimented the Noah's Ark baby quilt colors. I added a quilt care guide to the ribbon around the quilt, and the free gift tag to the bear so it would be prominently-seen when the box was unwrapped.

Gift bear is tucked in for a nap during his trip to meet his new baby boy.

To make sure all of our toys make a comfortable trip, I tuck them inside the quilt. It's a perfect place to nap as they make their safe journey to their new home with best wishes that this baby quilt becomes a favorite napping quilt.

Welcome to the world, Edmund!

Making Noah's Ark Baby Quilt "Girlie"

Making Noah's Ark Baby Quilt "Girlie"

This brand new, imported Noah's Ark Baby Quilt has been a favorite baby shower gift for several years. From the Williamsburg, Va. historic collection, the design is based on a German applique quilt in their museum collection.

Now our customers have selected this baby quilt as a gift for boys until now. The customer wanted me to make the quilt "girlie" by adding a baby girl's name and birth date. After looking at several options, I chose a complimentary burgundy thread and Diane Script in the space between the birds on top and the top of the ark.

I also added a bear I thought a little girl would like, a huggable honey-colored bear all set for winter with a dark red scarf. The free gift toy delivers the free quilt care guide and gift tag.

To make sure the bear was all set for her trip, the toy was carefully tucked into the baby quilt before I tucked it into a temporary plastic bag for the trip to their new home.

I also matched a gift bear with the quilt, this honey bear is ready for cold weather.

PS Customer emailed me she was very happy with the personalized baby quilt, it was bigger than she expected. The shipping box, however, was opened and re-taped by the post office. That's why we ship our quilts in temporary plastic bags to keep them dry and clean during shipping.

Personalize Quilt with Toy

Isn't this lamb adorable?

He looks like he could have jumped right out of our One Sheep, Two Sheep Baby Quilt!

Adding a complimentary toy to a baby quilt is an easy way to personalize the gift. It also makes a nice connection between the child and quilt.

Over the years, we've received dozens of notes from customers who like their quilts and get an even bigger kick out of the toy!
